Hamburg’s Colonial Theater, a significant source of both entertainment and community pride, is looking for support as it seeks to replace its projector.
On July 13, the theater posted on its Facebook page that it would be temporarily closed due to the current projector being out of service.
Colonial Theatre Board President Erica Stephens said the cost of a new projector is $48,444.58. A $20,000 deposit has been paid and the Colonial is making payments on the balance. A total of $28,000 is needed to pay off this essential equipment for the theatre.
In the meantime, Heartland Theatre Services is loaning a projector for use at the Colonial. The projector is expected to arrive in the next few weeks. This will allow Colonial to be open for families to attend movies until the new projector is paid off and delivered. Mrs. Stephens and her family have been opening the concession stand randomly to the community for “grab and go snacks” to help raise more funds while the theatre isn’t operating. The committee has applied for multiple grants and are holding a BBQ supper in the park on Aug. 23. More information will be shared as it becomes available. If anyone is interested in donating, please reach out to Erica Stephens at 712-382-0427.
