Middaugh, Hall attend state convention

“I Belong” was the theme chosen by Iowa State Organization President Liz Poock for the State Convention of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held June 6 and 7, 2025.

Members of Beta Chapter—Nancy Middaugh and Verlaine Hall of Hamburg and Dena Higginbotham, Judy O’Brien, Wendy Matson, and Macy Higginbotham of Council Bluffs joined fellow educators from all over Iowa at the West Des Moines Marriott. The event was organized by host chapters Beta, Beta Zeta, Beta Kappa, and Nu Alpha Gamma from the Southwest District.

The special guest representing International was Northwest Regional Director Lisa Olson from North Dakota who presented a workshop and spoke at the banquet.

Friday evening featured a presentation on AI in the classroom and workshops ranging from gathering family memories to traveling the Appalachian Trail.

Saturday members learned more about Iowa DKG, conducted Society business, celebrated the Iowa State Organization’s 89th birthday and honored the 12 founders. A Ceremony of Remembrance honored deceased members. To conclude the weekend of food, fellowship, and fresh ideas, members gathered for a banquet and the installation of officers for the 2025-27 biennium.

Nancy Middaugh and Dena Higginbotham were co-chair of the convention and Judy O’Brien coordinated the Founders’ Day program.
