Hamburg CSD celebrates bid award for renovation, expansion

The members of the Hamburg School Board recently voted to accept a bid for the expansion and renovation project at Marnie Simons Elementary School.

Graphite Construction Group of Des Moines won a bid in the amount of $2,998,000 for the construction of an 8,000-foot fitness center and two additional classrooms. The bid was the lowest amount of five possible.

The bid comes after three-plus years of work by the school district. In November of 2021, the school district’s voters approved a $3.1 million bond issue for the project. Previous bid attempts failed as the bids came in too high. This round was the third round of bidding.

Construction is set to begin March 1 with an expected completion of Nov. 1. The contract carries a daily penalty for late completion of the project.
