Porch Time with T
While on our vacation, we saw a garage sale sign and decided we needed to stop. You see, we both love a bargain or in our terms “ a treasure.”
The fellow said his mother-in-law “Granny” had passed and they were selling her things.
As we’re trying to downsize ourselves, we didn’t really see anything we needed but, as always, we visited 30 minutes or so with the folks.
I looked inside the garage and there they sat, a whole set of pots and pans and they were the prettiest green color, so I asked if they were for sale.
The gentleman promptly replied that he’d take $5 for the 8-piece set with glass lids.
I hauled them to the car before he changed his mind, and my hubby gave him a crisp $5 bill.
As we were leaving, a young man (the grandson), who was 12, spoke up and said in the proudest voice, “I’ve eaten a lot of Granny’s chicken and dumplings out of that biggest pan.”
At that point my heart felt warm. This Granny and her chicken meal had made a big influence on this young boy.
I remembered my own grandma and my mom also making those same dumplings, they’d slave over that stove and fill the house with an aroma you will forever remember.
Folks, that’s the moment my hubby and I looked at one another and decided that the monetary gifts we give the children at Christmas don’t produce near the “ heartfelt memories” as something you made them or a time you spent time with them that they can remember you by.
Blessings to each of you, make your memories,
T
