Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope that his office has been awarded the 2024 Small Jail Division “Best of the Best” Award by the State of Iowa Department of Corrections. The award was presented during the banquet at the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association Conference. This honor recognizes the outstanding work, professionalism, and dedication of the entire jail staff.
A very special acknowledgment goes to Lead Jailer Carol Rands, whose leadership and dedication have been instrumental in earning this recognition. Carol is in her 28th year with Fremont County and has 35 years total service in law enforcement. Her remarkable career began in 1989 as a dispatcher in Mitchell, S.D., followed by service with the Cass County Nebraska Sheriff’s Office before joining Fremont County. Carol played a pivotal role in overseeing the transition from the original 10-bed facility, built in 1889, to the 30-bed, state of the art facility now in operation which was completed in 2015. Her vision and leadership have set the standard for excellence in these operations.
