Culinary Class boasts 16 students at Hamburg

Amber Graham is serving as the culinary instructor for the Hamburg Charter High School and will be leading a group of 16 culinary students this school year.

“We now have a cafe (Big Blue Cafe) on Main Street in Hamburg where the students prepare and cook the meals for the community to enjoy,” Graham said. “We are currently open on Thursday evenings from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. We will have different hours once school starts.”

The Hamburg students learn cooking skills in the Charter Culinary Class and choose the menus at the Big Blue Cafe. Students keep any tips they make and the money from sales at the Cafe goes back into the school program. The high school students get hourly pay for working this summer and get paid for catering jobs for which they have been hired.
