Thompson punches ticket for state, Sidney grabs team spot

Keith Thompson, last year’s runner up at the state golf tournament, will be representing Hamburg High School again in 2024 after qualifying as an individual for the Class 1A Boys State Championships during the District Meet on Monday, May 13, at Crestwood Hills Golf Course at Anita.Thompson shot a 36 on both 9s to claim an overall one-over-par 72 that placed him in second place overall behind meet champion Chase Jahde of CAM, who shot 69.The Sidney golfers qualified for state as a team with a first-place score of 323.Hayden Thompson shot 74 to finish as the top shooter for Sidney.

Sectional Golf

Members of the Sidney girls’ golf team topped Riverside by three strokes, 417-420 and qualified to participate in the Regional Final Golf tournament in Anita at Crestwood Golf Course.

Thompson wins first at Sectional meet

Hamburg’s Keith Thompson was the meet medalist and qualified for the district meet during action at the Iowa Boys 1A Sectional Golf Tournament at the Fremont County Golf Course on May 8.Sidney won the team championship with a 332 compared to 343 by East Mills and 344 by Audubon.Hayden Thompson of Sidney was the meet runner up with a 77 and Will Bryant was fourth with a 79.Other Sidney scores were Kolt Payne, 85; Carter Jorgenson, 91; Michael Hensley, 93; and Grant Whitehead, 98.Ian Thompson shot 114 for Hamburg.

Sidney teams sweep Corner Conference

Sidney golfers claimed team championships at the 2024 Corner Conference tournament at the Fremont County Golf Course.The Sidney girls’ team shot 412, out-shooting second place Essex/Stanton, 537; and Fremont-Mills, 554.Linsey Keiser of Griswold shot 92 for first place on the individual side, followed by Joanna Reynolds of Griswold, 93; Ellie Ward of Sidney, 99; and Joscelyn Tackett of Sidney, 100.Other shooters for Sidney were Eve Brumbaugh, 104; and Ellah Pummel, 109.Hamburg’s Hilda Thompson shot 113.The Sidney boys’ team shot 336, out-shooting second place East Mills, 370; and third place Griswold, 394.
