Nash Moreland, an eighth-grade student at Fremont Mills, has earned a position on the Iowa National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Des Moines to compete in the 19th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in bull riding and chute dogging.
A pair of Sidney High School students have earned positions on the Iowa National High School rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Rock Springs, Wyo., to compete in the 76th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR).
The Sidney baseball and softball teams hosted East Mills on Monday, June 10, for a baseball and softball doubleheader.Sidney’s softball team rallied from down 14-6 to score nine runs in their final at bat of the game for a 15-14 win that was the Cowgirls’ first triumph of the season.Turning to the baseball game, Sidney was down 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning and had the bases loaded when an umpire ruling of interference by Sidney’s first base coach led to the third out of the inning.East Mills scored two insurance runs in the top of the seventh and went off with a 10-5 win.Other recent softball and baseball results are below.Sidney baseball 7, Fremont-Mills 1The Cowboys jumped to a 4-1 lead after one inning and never looked back on the way to victory.Sidney had six hits on the game including a two-hit offensive by Michael Hensley that included a double.

Emmalee Cheyann Barrett recently signed a letter of intent to Peru State College.The recent grad said her post high school plan just recently came together.“As a student of the Hamburg Charter School, I really didn’t know, as they say, what I wanted to be when I grew up,” she said.
Hamburg’s Paycee Holmes had a medal-winning effort for the Wildcats with a sixth-place leap of 16’3.75” in the girls’ long jump.
Hamburg senior trackster Paycee Holmes soared to a first-place long jump distance of 16’10.75” and qualified for the state meet during action at the Class 1A State Qualifier meet at Fremont Mills last week.Holmes leap beat out Emma Cooper, a senior from Southwest Valley, who jumped for second place at 16’8.25”.
