AI: World likely to hit key warming threshold in 10-12 years

The world will likely breach the internationally agreed-upon climate change threshold in about a decade, and keep heating to break through a next warming limit around mid-century even with big pollution cuts, artificial intelligence predicts in a new study that’s more pessimistic than previous modeling. The study in Monday’s journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reignites a debate on whether it’s still possible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as called for in the 2015 Paris climate agreement, to minimize the most damaging effects of climate change.

Iowa Association of Justice donates to DementiaFriendlyIowa

The Iowa Association for Justice (IAJ) collected donations from Iowa trial attorneys across the state throughout 2022 to benefit the work and mission of Dementia Friendly Iowa. In addition to contributing more than $16,000 to Dementia Friendly Iowa, IAJ members and staff participated in a 5K Run to Remember in Waterloo to benefit Dementia Friendly and Veteran’s Way.

ISU survey asks Iowans about wine quality

A wine specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is interested in knowing more about how Iowans handle red and white wines from purchase to consumption. Aude Watrelot, assistant professor of enology in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State, is surveying Iowa consumers to learn more about their habits and preferences – from the time they purchase wines to the time of consumption.

Q&A: Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO recruits alumni as mentors

USDA Food and Nutrition Service today announced $50 million in grants to 47 states and tribes to modernize and expand the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program at farmers markets, roadside stands and community supported agriculture programs. These grants will allow states to reach more eligible seniors by funding the $50 maximum benefit for up to 250,000 more eligible seniors, while expanding geographic areas served and transitioning to online training and electronic benefits transfer in some states.
