A pair of wrestlers from SWI will represent the team at the state wrestling tournament. Seth Ettleman, 120, and Gabe Johnson, 132, earned second place finishes at the IHSAA 2A District 5 tournament at Glenwood on Saturday.
Vanguard Appraisals, Inc. of Cedar Rapids was awarded the contract to reappraise all residential, ag dwelling, commercial, and industrial classes of property in the county. Company representatives have measured and attempted to inspect all property over the last year. A sales analysis and a review of the information collected were conducted before the values were finalized.
The start of 2023 was encouraging for water resources in Iowa. Precipitation for the month was 1.82 inches, nearly double the normal moisture. All of Iowa’s reporting stations reported near to above-average precipitation.

Chris Clark was appointed board chairman and Dustin Sheldon was appointed board vice-chairman. Committee appointments are as follows: Supervisor Dustin Sheldon: Welcome Center Board, West Central Development, Landfill Commission, Local Emergency Response, Southwest Iowa Juvenile Emergency Services Board, Loess Hills Alliance, and Safety Committee.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the arrest of two individuals in connection with an arson that occurred in Anderson in June 2020. On June 22, 2020, fire departments and investigators were called to 306th Avenue in Anderson for a report of two separate buildings on fire.
Iowa’s 2022 deer harvest increased seven percent over the 2021 season, due, in part to the new Excess Tag January Antlerless Season approved by the Iowa Legislature last spring. “A lot of hunters chose to participate in the new season, and the harvest was on par or a little above the other firearms seasons,” said Jace Elliott, state deer biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Crop producers must make some important and timely decisions if they want to participate in the Farm Bill programs for 2023. The deadline to make an election and enroll is March 15, according to Ann Johanns, education extension specialist and manager of the Ag Decision Maker with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
The 2023 Waubonsie Horse Camp will be hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Fremont County June 9th-11th at the Fremont County Fairgrounds with riding clinics being conducted in the Sidney Rodeo Arena.
