Report: Iowa small farms decreasing

A recent farm trends publication from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach discusses changing farm trends between 2011 and 2021, including farm sizes, production values, net incomes and debt. In Rural Iowa at a Glance, Farm Trends (2022 Edition), David Peters, professor and extension rural sociologist at Iowa State University, shares data that shows the way agriculture in the state is shifting.

Steamboat Trace Grand Re-Opening celebration, 5K Depot Dash set April 15

The Nemaha Natural Resources District (NRD) is celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of the Steamboat Trace on April 15, 2023. The Grand Re-Opening ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the Peru Depot Trailhead located in Peru. Following the ceremony runners and walkers are invited to participate in the 5K Depot Dash at 9 a.m. Registration for the Depot Dash is required and can be found at www.getmeregistered. com/DepotDash or on the Nemaha NRD’s website under “News”. Registration costs $25 through March 30 and $30 until April 13. Following the Depot Dash, the village of Peru is hosting a pancake feed from 9 a.m. until around noon at the Peru City Hall (614 5th Street Peru, NE). Wedding Music Workshop set April 11-14

The Old Avoca Schoolhouse in Avoca, Nebraska, will be streaming three on line “Wedding Music Workshops” for soprano recorder players, fiddlers, violists, cellists, bassists, and mandolinists. The Workshops will be on Tuesday, April 11, 7 p.m., Central Time, Wednesday, April 12, 10 a.m., Central Time, and Friday, April 14, 7 p.m., Central Time.

Iowa DNR releases Iowa Drought Plan

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has finalized a drought plan for use by local, county, state agencies and governments in the event of droughts in the state. The Iowa Drought Plan was developed in partnership with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
