Iowa Western receives grant from FAA
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $5 million in grants to develop a diverse talent pool of aviation maintenance technicians. The Aviation Maintenance Technical Workers Workforce Development Grants were awarded to organizations that will teach technical skills and prepare participants to pursue aviation maintenance careers.

Reynolds announces Iowa Health Careers Registered Apprenticeship Grant program
During the 2022 Condition of the State Address, Gov. Reynolds announced the new Iowa Health Careers Registered Apprenticeship Program aimed at both providing high school students with the opportunity to explore health care careers while getting paid and helping to address the health care workforce shortage.
Certified commercial pesticide applicator training to be offered
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and Iowa Central Community College are offering a fourday workshop that will prepare attendees to become certified as Commercial Pesticide Applicators. This course will focus on materials needed to take the Iowa Core Manual Exam and Categories 1A (Ag Weed Control), 1B (Ag Insect Control) and 1C (Ag Disease Control).

2021 Water Summary: Dry year ends on wet not in Iowa
Last year was the second dry year in a row for Iowa. Over the previous 24 months parts of central and west central Iowa received a foot less than normal moisture. Both streamflow and groundwater conditions were of concern throughout much of 2021, but the third wettest October on record helped to end the year with near normal conditions.

Naig extends fall cover crop program deadline to Jan. 28
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has extended the deadline for farmers who planted fall cover crops to sign up for a $5 per acre discount on their 2022 crop insurance premiums. Farmers and landowners now have through Jan. 28 to sign up online at apply.cleanwateriowa.org.
