Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Award Winners Named

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach county offices in the southwest area announced award recipients for outstanding achievements in 2021. Heidi Lowthorp, Fremont County Growing Strong Families Parent Educator, received the Creativity in Service to All Iowans demonstrating creative service to complex demographics of Iowa through outreach.

Winter safety tips for clearing ice, snow from gas meters, regulators

Snow and ice buildup on your natural gas meter can create a safety hazard and even cut off the flow of natural gas to your heating equipment and other appliances. To avoid trouble, gently remove snow and ice from on and around the meter with your hands or a broom. Gas meters and regulators are durable and designed with the weather in mind, but a coating of ice or snow could cause a loss of service and become a critical safety issue. When possible, remove the snow before it has a chance to freeze.

Wabash Trace Trail receives $25K donation

Southwest Iowa Nature Trails Inc. recently received a $25,000 annual gift from the Hoff Family Fund of the Pottawattamie County Community Foundation to provide for maintenance of the Wabash Trace Nature Trail. The Trace, which stretches from Council Bluffs to the Missouri state line and passes through Imogene, is a 63-mile-long converted railroad right-of-way. The trail waas completed in 1997 and annually hosts the Wabash Trace Nature Trail Marathon, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10. Hamburg Reporter File Photo
