ICGA members take top priority to state capitol

Nearly 100 Iowa Corn Growers Association® (ICGA) members filled the State Capitol rotunda on March 23 for the “Iowa Corn Day on the Hill” lobbying event. This delegation included ICGA Board, county leaders, and grassroots members from across the state. Their lobbying efforts focused on the Iowa Biofuels Access Bill, a top priority of the organization. The Iowa Biofuels Access Bill will increase consumer choice at the pump by making E15 an option at many fuel stations across Iowa.

Keep seasonal allergies in check

There is much to look forward to when springs arrives. Daily hours of sunlight increase while temperatures continue to climb. Blooming flowers and leaves budding on trees also add some awe-inspiring color back into the landscape. Even though there’s much to enjoy about spring, one side effect of so much foliage in bloom is the return of seasonal spring allergies.

IDALS cancels live bird shows to stop avian flu spread

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order cancelling all live bird exhibitions at fairs and other gatherings of birds due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The order also prohibits live birds from being sold or transferred at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales. The Department’s order begins immediately and is effective for a minimum of 30 days, and until 30 days has passed without a confirmation of a new infection of HPAI in domestic poultry in the state of Iowa.
