Summer slide is a concept that has been on educators’ minds since 1996, when the first comprehensive study on the topic was published. Students lose significant knowledge in core subjects over the summer break, and those losses increase each year. There’s much parents can do to help their children continue learning over the summer. New thrillers among offerings at Hamburg Library

A trio of thrillers, a women’s friendship selection, and a graphic novel are the newest reading options offered at Hamburg Public Library. As the cover of the latest John Sandford thriller suggests, crude oil plays a major part in “The Investigator.” Letty Davenport, Lucas Davenport’s adopted daughter, finally is asked to help with an investigation in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security.

Fremont County Sheriff

On April 29, at approximately 10 a.m., Fremont County Deputies were called to Hamburg for a report of a stolen semi and trailer. The caller advised the suspect had fled the scene and was hiding near an abandoned residence on southern Washington Street.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month: Increase understanding, reduce stigma

Maintaining mental wellbeing in the face of life’s many stressors can be challenging. However, the stigma surrounding mental health issues can make the challenge even greater, according to Kimberly Cavalier, a human sciences specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Since 1949, May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States. The purpose is to increase understanding and reduce stigma concerning mental health conditions and challenges.
