Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning accepting applications for the 2023 program year

The Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program is currently accepting applications for the 2023 program. Eligible communities are those with populations of fewer than 10,000 residents, existing transportation-related issues, and a committee of volunteers willing to dedicate their time and talent to the visioning process. Only communities located within one mile of a state or federal highway will be selected.

DNR needs turkey counters

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for help with its annual wild turkey production survey. During the months of July and August wild turkey sightings are recorded to estimate this year’s nesting rates and nest success.

Highway 2 project to feature head-to-head traffic configuration

Work is underway on Highway 2 to install a triple box culvert east of the bridge over Horse Creek. According to Transportation Systems Management and Operations Engineer Austin Yates of the Iowa Department of Transportation, the project will use “head-to-head lane configuration in which we have one lane in each direction on one side of Highway 2.” Yates said traffic will be head-to-head in the eastbound lanes for the first stage of the construction of the culvert (under the westbound lanes).
