Extension to offer suicide prevention resources for Iowa farmers

Although Iowa farmers can get ready for fall harvest, the stress they may face this time of year can be harder to prepare for. Weather extremes, labor challenges and time pressures can compound financial concerns like lower crop prices, higher input costs and larger debt burdens. The stress can be overwhelming. In response, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is continuing to offer virtual and in-person “Question. Persuade. Refer.” trainings, also known as QPR.

Armstrong Research Farm to Host Beef Field Day

Field peas and forages will headline a beef field day at Iowa State University’s Armstrong Memorial Research and Demonstration Farm on Friday, Sept. 16. Erika Lundy-Woolfolk, beef specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, said the program is geared toward local beef producers with information on exploring alternative cropping systems, tips for managing calves, and insight into the 2023 beef market. “This field day is an opportunity to learn about research happening right here in southwest Iowa,” she said. “Some of projects we’ll talk about are incorporating field peas into the cropping system, feeding field peas to feedlot cattle and utilizing annual forages to expand grazing rotations.”

Nebraska Film Office Grant Eligibility Expanded to Include Television Series & Miniseries

Earlier this year, eligibility for the Nebraska Film Office Grant was expanded to include television series and miniseries. Administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, the Film Office Grant offers financial support for television and film projects that are budgeted to spend at least $1 million in Nebraska and which feature Nebraska-based stories and locales.

Nebraska native returns home to shoot film about youthful days in Nebraska City

Paul Hammel, Nebraska Examiner A Nebraska native has returned home to film a Nebraska story, in large part because of a new state grant program for filmmaking. Adam Rehmeier, now a Michigan-based screenwriter and director, has been shooting his coming-of-age comedy, “Snack Shack,” in his hometown of Nebraska City as part of a six-week shooting schedule.

Movies shot in Nebraska

Movies have been filmed in Nebraska for more than 80 years, beginning with the MGM classic, “Boys Town,” starring Spencer Tracy in 1938 and continuing today with “The Snack Shack” here in Nebraska City.
