Get into the Halloween spirit at the Pumpkin Carving and Painting event at the Sidney Gazebo Park from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. All are invited, from novice artists to veterans and everyone in between. This event is free with pumpkins, tools for carving/painting, embellishments, and paint all provided. It will be guaranteed fun for all ages. This is the first year for this event. It’s part of a project that a local creative group in Sidney called “The Brew” has put in motion.

Seventh grade students at Sidney got into the Halloween spirit recently and advanced their woodworking skills by making solar powered pumpkins. Sidney woodworking instructor Shawn Thompson explained that the project allowed his students to learn how to use a bandsaw.

Lourdes Central Catholic celebrated National School Lunch Week by opening the school’s new cafeteria space for student use for lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Ron Robinson of Hamburg grew a 7.5 lbs sweet potato in the community garden that he helps plant and maintain each year. .

The Hamburg United Methodist and United Trinity Churches hosted the Harvest Hoedown featuring a live musical performance by the Southwest 7 band. The event was from 5 to 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church parking lot. Members of the public were invited free of charge to bring a lawn chair and sit to enjoy the music as well as yard games and a meal of hot dogs, chips and a drink.
