Brownville Concert Series Hosts Holiday Harp Concert

The Brownville Concert Series will kick off two weekends of Christmas in Brownville with a “Winter Wonderland” harp concert featuring Julie Smith Phillips, Principal Harpist for the San Diego Symphony, with a program of classical treasures and holiday favorites, including music by Handel, Britten and Rameau. The concert on December 2nd begins at 7:00pm and is open to the public, no tickets required, free will donations accepted. The donations will go toward student scholarships for the 2023 Nebraska Harp Workshop and the Brownville Concert Series annual fund drive complementing their mission of student and community outreach.

Peru Theatre Company presents: Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom

Peru Theatre Company wraps up the Fall 2022 season with Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jennifer Haley. The film is directed by a senior student, Austin Martin (Falls City). It features a cast of fifteen new and returning Peru Theatre Company members. Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (or N3RD as we call it) is a dark comedy that is set in Suburbia, the world of an online horror video game. Relationships between parents and their children break down with increases in teens’ addiction to the game. As the rules of the game, reality, and virtual lines blur, we are compelled to question our own relationships and ask: “Who do I think you are?”

Health and Safety Training Institute Offering Region’s Only OSHA-Authorized, Bilingual Trainings for Businesses

Heartland Workers Center’s Health & Safety Training Institute (HSTI) offers the region’s only bilingual workplace safety training authorized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Additionally, HSTI is the only health and safety training program in the area that conducts the training sessions at the employers’ workplaces during employees’ working hours or at Heartland Workers Center’s training facility.

For Iowa’s deer hunters, the wait is nearly over: Shotgun deer season begins Dec. 3

Iowa’s most popular deer hunting seasons are just around the corner, when roughly 100,000 blaze orange clad hunters take to the timber and wildlife experts are forecasting another good year. “Our deer population is stable to slightly increasing statewide, so hunters should expect to see numbers similar to last year,” said Tyler Harms, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Extension Master Gardener Volunteers Now Accepting Applications for 2023 Program

A frosty winter day is a great time to stay indoors and enjoy a good book, a warm fire in the fireplace and a hot cup of cocoa. But for gardeners, winter is also time to dream and plan next summer’s gardens. Soon gardeners will be looking through mail-order catalogues, making up their 2023 plant and seed orders. But for Nebraska Extension Master Gardener volunteers, winter is also a time to gather new knowledge, meet new friends and prepare for a fun season of volunteering.
