Do you prefer standalone books or those written in a series? Some authors only write individual books moving from character to character and theme to theme in each novel they create. Others seem to like to develop a character and keep telling his or her story adding various situations to the mix.
The Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted from organizations providing charitable services in seven counties: Audubon, Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, and Shelby. Page and Crawford counties participate in proactive grantmaking during the fall rather than accepting applications. More than $430,000 is available across the seven listed counties in this grant cycle, and those interested in a breakdown of the funding can learn more at swiowafoundations.org.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious injury accident on July 18, 2025, at approximately 5:28 p.m., in the 100 block of Clay Street in Farragut.
Ag Instructor Abby Pendleton reported that six Sidney FFA members proudly showed their 4H projects at the FC Fair. Projects included horse, cattle, goats, sheep, static, and cherry pies. Participating members were Ellie Ward, Keyana Haggerty, Clara Haggerty, Czandrya Morgan, Lyla Brooks, and Sheyanne Simmons. Sheyanne Simmons of Fremont County was among a group of Iowa’s future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics who embarked on a transformative journey through Iceland, June 7-13, as part of STEM in Motion, an innovative 4-H Youth Development program from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to welcome to Brownville, Josh Hoyer SOLO – Stories and Songs. Hoyer will be performing solo, bringing some of his original soul, blues, and Americana music to Brownville. The songs come directly from Hoyer’s life and have a realness that begs the listener to step into his world. It’s sure to be one you won’t want to miss! The shows will be in cabaret on Friday & Saturday, August 8th & 9th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, August 10th at 2:00pm. Hamburg Public Library has specialty areas set aside so patrons can easily locate certain categories of books such as westerns, Amish and Christian fiction, nonfiction, biographies, and large print. Thinking specifically of nonfiction and large print, these books are new.
