Iowa State University fall dean’s list

Two Sidney residents were recently named to the fall semester 2022 dean’s list at Iowa State University. Taylersue Hickman, a first-year cyber security engineering student, and Abigail Renee Whitehead, a second-year psychology student, were among the more than 10,200 ISU students on the list.

It’s Official

It’s official; the new year has begun. The first four books with 2023 publication dates have arrived at the library! Ellen and I had guessed that the first book to appear with 2023 date would be by either James Patterson or Danielle Steel.

Just when I think there couldn’t possibly be anything more labeled ‘artificial’ in our world today, I learned there is something called artificial intelligence! The TV program I was watching showed ‘it’ writing term papers for example and following the order to produce anything it was commanded to do.

“Not all the forgets is dementia”

Frequently, my patients will come to a visit and bring up a major concern: “Doc, I think I might have dementia; my memory seems to be slipping.” They might give examples of having difficulty finding words, forgetting people’s names, or just feeling like their thinking is slower. Many of them know a family member who had dementia, and they are worried.

Students earn scholarships while gaining knowledge

Iowa high school seniors have a chance to receive much-needed funds for college while learning ways to reduce college loan debt through a program offering $1,000 scholarships. Iowa high school seniors may register for the Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship at www.IowaStudentLoan.org/Know-How between now and March 31.

Peru State National Alumni Association hosts Chili Feed

There will be plenty of activities taking place on Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center (AWAC), with the Peru State National Alumni (NAA) Chili Feed being the highlight of the day. This will be the 13th annual hosting of the event on the Campus of a Thousand Oaks.
