Girls State Wrestling

A pair of SWI wrestlers competed during the Iowa girls’ high school state wrestling tournament last week. Clara Sapienza won two matches in four outings at the state meet.

Fremont County Long Term Disaster Recovery focus turns to preparedness

Following the flood of March 2019, the Fremont County Long Term Disaster Recovery Group (FCLTDRG) was resurrected to help in recovery. Its efforts included the distribution of nearly $240,000 in financial assistance, and the coordination of other goods and services to aid hundreds of flood survivors. With the flood finally in the past, the group is reorganizing to focus on preparing for future disasters, ensuring everyone is ready to respond efficiently and equitably in providing aid. FCLTDRG is now known as Fremont County Disaster Coalition (FCDC).

Q: What resources are available for taxpayers having issues with the IRS? A: As a taxpayer watchdog, I keep close tabs on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and champion efforts to strengthen taxpayer protections and customer service at the federal tax collecting agency. For example, I take seriously my congressional oversight work to ensure the bipartisan Taxpayer First Act I helped steer into law in 2019 is implemented as Congress intended.

Naig encourages applications for 2023 Century, Heritage Farm programs

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig encourages eligible Iowa farm owners to apply for the 2023 Century and Heritage Farm Program now through June 1. The program was created by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation to recognize families who have owned their farms for 100 years and 150 years, respectively.
