Fremont County Extension sponsors overnight event

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Fremont County sponsored Jungle Junior Overnight Friday, March 17. Thirty-two youth in 4-6 grades met at the Fremont Mills High School in Tabor at 6 p.m. Camp lasted until 10 a.m. on Saturday. The camp was open to all area youth in grades 4-6 with no requirement to be 4-H members.

Robert L. Hines, age 74 of Farragut, IA (formerly Hamburg) passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at the Shenandoah Medical Center in Shenandoah, IA.

Sidney golf teams target conference crowns in 2023

A total of 17 athletes will compete for the Sidney girls’ and boys’ golf teams this year with eight out for the girls’ side and nine out for the boys’ team. The breakdown is one freshman, eight sophomores, four juniors and four seniors.

Dr. Seuss Day becomes family tradition for Peru State College Professor

The Peru Student Education Association (PSEA) hosted the Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash on February 9th and 10th on the Peru State Campus. The event was attended by area preschool and elementary students from Auburn, Johnson-Brock, Johnson County Central, Nebraska City Lourdes, HTRS, Falls City, St. Andrew Catholic School, Sterling, Tarkio, Little Learners Pre-K, and the Peru State Day Care. Several members of the community also attended.

It is Income Tax time in our land. Pretty certain that isn’t news to anyone. Indeed, I can’t say it is one of favorite times of the year. But – I have discovered this year I will be sorry to see the deadline for filing come to an end.

Before my junior year in high school, I returned from a Boy Scout canoeing trip to discover my sister had been killed in a car crash. I will never forget the sadness of the moment when I walked into the house that was filled with what seemed like half the caring and wonderful town of De Smet to find my mom and dad there grieving. It was near the end of that summer, but the beginning of a long period of mourning for my family and me.

Every five years, Congress reauthorizes the Agriculture Improvement Act - better known as the Farm Bill – to protect the productivity, profitability, and international competitiveness of American agriculture. As the second largest agriculture-producing district in the nation, I am working to ensure that every farmer, producer, and agricultural stakeholder in Iowa has a seat at the table when the Farm Bill is negotiated and eventually signed into law.
