Proposed Nebraska mine might produce more rare elements

OMAHA, Neb. – The company working to build a mine in southeast Nebraska to extract a rare element used to make steel lighter and stronger said Tuesday that it may also be able to produce some of the key ingredients needed to make the powerful magnets used in electric vehicles and other high-tech products.

Harris named to SWIBA Honor Band

Christian Harris of the Sidney High School band auditioned for SWIBA Honor Band on Dec. 11in Atlantic. He was accepted into the Honor Band and was placed as 1st Chair. SWIBA Honor Band will perform Jan. 17 at Atlantic High School, and Christian will lead the percussion section of the band that includes students from schools of all sizes in Southwest Iowa.

Cowboys stop East Atchison, blast Griswold

After opening last week with a Tuesday win over East Atchison 74-52, the Cowboy basketball team won in a 87-31 rout of Griswold on Friday. Sidney topped East Atchison by a nine-point margin in the first quarter and an 11-point margin in the third quarter to account for most of the difference on the final scoreboard.
