Work will continue on the Missouri River bridge on Highway 2 for the next 10 to 12 weeks, depending on the weather, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. NDOT Project Manager Mike Habegger said that most of the expansion joint repairs on the bridge’s exterior is complete, but work continues on its interior. During the bridge rehabilitation project original work, which included bridge joint repair and some concrete patching on the internal portions of the bridge, Habegger said that some additional work was discovered during the interior patching that necessitated the repairs. “Freyssinet Inc., a company out of Sterling, Va., that is a sub-contractor for the prime contractor, Cramer and Associates out of Grimes, Iowa, is currently placing post tensioning cables in span No. 1 on the Nebraska side of the bridge,” said Habegger. The post tensioning cables are harmonic, he said, which basically means they alleviate bridge flexing or movement from traffic passing over the bridge. Once the interior rehabilitation work is complete, Habegger said the bridge and roadway will be re-opened to normal four-lane, two-way traffic as soon as possible. The work, which began on June 1, is estimated to cost $496,728 to complete.
