2021 Fremont County 4-H Awards presented

Fremont County 4-H families, youth, and volunteers gathered at the Colonial Movie Theater of Hamburg for this year’s Fremont County 4-H Awards Banquet. 4-H youth were recognized for their achievements for the 2020-2021 program year, and 8 youth were installed to serve on the 2021-2022 County Council.

Tree of Lights

The George C. Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary is very pleased with the response to their 2021Tree of Lights campaign. Over 250 purple lights are lit on the tree in front of the hospital in memory or in honor of loved ones this Christmas season. The glow from those lights will continue through the coming year as the Grape Hospital Auxiliary uses your donations to help fund their 2022 projects.

DNR gathering snowy owl information

Snowy owls breed in the open landscapes of the Arctic Tundra. During summers with abundant food (particularly lemmings), many young are produced, and the following winter, many of those young owls disperse south into the US to look for winter prey.

First Day Hikes planned at Iowa State Parks

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Travel Iowa invite Iowans to step outside and enjoy Iowa state parks and forests in the 2022 First Day Hike Challenge. Visitors can ring in the New Year with the Parks Passport on their own, or by joining park staff on a guided hike.

Summer seasonal positions open in Iowa state parks

The DNR Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau has openings for recreational aides and seasonal patrol officers for the summer 2022 season across the state park system. Jobs duties will include assisting park staff in patrolling the park, helping visitors, registering campers, and maintaining the park through duties such as mowing, trimming, cleaning, trail work and facility repairs.
