Mary Ann (Fletcher) Gregg was born March 8, 1933, in Hamburg, Iowa, to Ray C. and Geneva Fletcher. She spent her life in Hamburg and always talked of lifelong experiences and friends who resided there.

Richard C. Owen, age 90 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.

Shirley June Collins, age 88 of Sidney, IA (formerly Hamburg, IA) went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Shirley June was born on May 28, 1933 in Hamburg, IA; the daughter of James and Lovilla (Webster) Stephens.

Cowgirls top SW Valley, Essex

Victories over Southwest Valley, 48-32, and Essex, 59-26, raised Sidney’s record to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in Corner Conference play. Scoring for Sidney against Southwest Valley were Kaden Payne, 12; Chay Ward, 12; Harley Spurlock, 10; Emily Hutt, four; Avery Dowling, three; Makenna Laumann, three; Aunika Hayes, two; and Sadie Thompson, two.

Attract beneficial insects by growing sweet alyssum

Gardeners who are looking for a creative way to control insects might consider planting some sweet alyssum. This flowering annual or short-lived perennial adds some bright colors to the garden, and most importantly, it attracts beneficial insects such as ladybugs and hoverfly.

Appreciation

I think back to the “way things were” sometimes and sadly realize I didn’t fully appreciate the many things I thought would always be there. I learned to appreciate my small town bank even more when I was living in Lincoln.
