Peru State head volleyball coach Madison Kindle recently announced the volleyball program will be hosting a skills camp on Wednesday, July 20. The camp will be for high school players looking to continue their careers at the collegiate level. The camp runs from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

James W. Folkes, 80, of Hamburg, Iowa passed away on May 27, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was born August 20, 1941 in Hamburg to Vernon and Marjorie (Omer) Folkes. Jim went to school through 8th grade at Valley Farm country school and graduated from Hamburg High School with the class of 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Hein, on April 28, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They were blessed with two children, Diane and Jeffrey.

Surely I’m not the only person in this world that still has unfulfilled goals in their lives, am I? Well, I guess I accomplished one last night I didn’t even realize was on my list! You see, it started out like this. I read my Elmwood Alumni Banquet invitation and noticed it was a change from the past.
With the storm approaching, my wife texted me after work to come home right away. Within minutes, after I left the clinic, she called me again to tell me NOT to come home and to seek shelter immediately. At first, I thought I could make it home, but then the wall of wind hit, and a tree fell onto the road in front of me. I turned around and another tree blocked the way. Then it got so dark. It was disorienting and I turned on my windshield wipers using the fluid to try to clear the dust and mud off my windshield. That did not help. Thankfully, I made it safely to a friend’s house.
Sidney High School celebrated the Class of 2022 graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 22 in the school’s gymnatorium. The 2022 class flower was tiger lily and the class motto was “One step at a time, but always moving forward.” Kyle Beam a Hamburg graduate was part of the class five top scholars.
