Earlier this year, eligibility for the Nebraska Film Office Grant was expanded to include television series and miniseries. Administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, the Film Office Grant offers financial support for television and film projects that are budgeted to spend at least $1 million in Nebraska and which feature Nebraska-based stories and locales.
Paul Hammel, Nebraska Examiner A Nebraska native has returned home to film a Nebraska story, in large part because of a new state grant program for filmmaking. Adam Rehmeier, now a Michigan-based screenwriter and director, has been shooting his coming-of-age comedy, “Snack Shack,” in his hometown of Nebraska City as part of a six-week shooting schedule.
Both state and local grants are available to filmmakers who want to make a movie or TV show in the Cornhusker State. “The Snack Shack,” currently filming in Nebraska City, received $200,000 from the Nebraska Film Office and $50,000 from the Nebraska City Economic Development Growth fund before filming began.
Movies have been filmed in Nebraska for more than 80 years, beginning with the MGM classic, “Boys Town,” starring Spencer Tracy in 1938 and continuing today with “The Snack Shack” here in Nebraska City.

The Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council (DD Council) is on a mission to make voting easier for Iowans with disabilities who wish to vote. Iowa has new voting laws that make voting more difficult than before, specifically for Iowans with disabilities.
While we all wish we could make the world a better place, we often feel we lack the resources to make a real difference. At the next event sponsored by Women, Land & Legacy of Southwest Iowa, participants will be inspired by local individuals who are making positive impacts in their communities in “groundbreaking” ways.
Two new staff have joined the Farm, Food and Enterprise Development team with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Alex Burke, communications specialist, and Krista Smith, farm to early care and education coordinator, both began their new roles in August.
