North Central Integrated Pest Management Center Moves to Iowa State

The North Central Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Center is coming to Iowa State University with renewed funding from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The grant award is for $4 million and the Center will receive $1 million annually for four years.

Leah Ten Napel is New Field Agronomist for Northwest Iowa

Leah Ten Napel has been named the new field agronomist for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in northwest Iowa. A native of LeMars, Ten Napel most recently was an agronomist with Central Valley Ag Coop in Hinton. She graduated from Iowa State in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and seed science.

Straub’s jet ski adventure took 101 days, but memories will last a lifetime

How long does it take to climb Mount Everest? According to an article published on the web by CNN, it takes about two months. Mike Straub, an Omaha resident and graduate of Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School, took on his version of the Everest by tackling the grand water traveling adventure known as America’s Great Loop on a 2022 Sea Doo Fish Pro Trophy jet ski.

Fremont County Youth Celebrate National 4-H Week

October 2-8 marks the annual National 4-H Week, a time during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country celebrate everything 4-H. It is the perfect time to showcase the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people, and to highlight members and volunteers who pledge their “head to clearer thinking, their heart to greater loyalty, their hands to larger service, and their health to better living for their club, their community, their country and their world.”

Excitement already building for next Battle with the Bulls

It’s been just a few weeks since the Battle with the Bulls event at Farragut, but Jamie Avey of Gold Buckle Production, Inc., says organizers are already excited for next year. This was the third year of Battle with the Bulls and the first year of the event being hosted in Farragut. It had previously been hosted at the Sidney Rodeo Arena.

A: As students headed back to school, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued an alert about candy-colored, “rainbow” fentanyl produced and marketed by the drug cartels to entice young people. When parents across America tuck their kids in at night, remember words matter.

Baker stops Peru VB in straight sets

Baker defeated the Peru State volleyball team on Sept. 24 by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 27-25. The loss sent Peru State’s season record to 5-11. Peru State is 2-4 in Heart of America Conference play.

Special Visitor from East Africa

Old Hamburg High / St Cornelius Orthodox Christian Retreat Center of Hamburg hosted a special visitor last weekend as Abbah (Father) John Methodious Kariuki visited from Kenya, East Africa. Abbah Kariuki was treated to a special luncheon and a tour of the Hamburg and the surrounding area. In a post on it’s Facebook page, the Hamburg organization noted, “He is helping us to understand mission work both for us here in America and for the Patriarcate of Alexandria in Africa.” From left are John (Cornelius) Connor, Fr.
