Private Pesticide Continuing Instruction Course

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Fremont County office will be offering an opportunity to attend the Private Pesticide Applicator Continuing Instruction Course (P-CIC), led by Extension Field Agronomist, Aaron Saeugling. This session is scheduled for December 7, 2022, at 1:30 PM at the McElroy Building on the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Sidney, Iowa. Additional courses are available through neighboring Iowa counties including Mills and Page. Pre-registration is welcome, but not required, by calling the Fremont County Extension office at 712-3742351.

Christmas Wishes Paying It Forward continues to seek names of cancer patients and donated items for its upcoming Blessing Bags distribution. Individuals undergoing cancer treatment in Otoe, Nemaha, Johnson, and Cass counties in Nebraska, as well as in Fremont County, Iowa, are eligible to receive a free Blessing Bag of items.

Guinness certifies Hansen’s world record pumpkin boat trip

It’s official: Syracuse’s Duane Hansen is the current world record holder for longest journey in a pumpkin boat. The Guinness World Records website contains the following information: “The longest journey by pumpkin boat (paddling) is 60.35 km (37.50 mi) and was achieved by Duane Hansen (USA) in Nebraska City, Nebraska, USA, on 27 August 2022.

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, the National Turkey Federation (NTF) is sharing helpful tips for Americans shopping for a turkey and preparing the Thanksgiving meal. Roughly half of soil organic matter is organic carbon. Soil carbon is sampled by taking soil probe samples similar to those farmers already take to measure soil fertility, but to measure carbon for carbon credit programs, the probe is usually inserted a full foot, or about six inches deeper than for soil fertility tests. A bulk density test is also taken, to determine the amount (tonnage) of carbon found within a specific area and depth.
