Tree of Lights shines at Grape Hospital

George C. Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating the 33rd Anniversary of its Tree of Lights Campaign. With the donation of $5 per name, anyone can have a bulb lit on the tree in front of the hospital in memory of a loved one or to honor someone special.

Homestead Monument to host Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures Celebration

Go back in time this holiday season, November 25 thru December 30, to see a beautiful tapestry of winter traditions of those who lived on the Great Plains at the beginning of the Homestead Era. The Homestead Act of 1862 served as an invitation for immigrants to seek free 160-acre homesteads in the United States and become citizens, resulting in the arrival of a variety of cultural and ethnic traditions to the United States. Our Winter Festival remembers this rich heritage and celebrates the cultures of those who settled the Great Plains as well as the cultural traditions that precede the Homestead Act.

For Iowa’s deer hunters, the wait is nearly over: Shotgun deer season begins Dec. 3

Iowa’s most popular deer hunting seasons are just around the corner, when roughly 100,000 blaze orange clad hunters take to the timber and wildlife experts are forecasting another good year. “Our deer population is stable to slightly increasing statewide, so hunters should expect to see numbers similar to last year,” said Tyler Harms, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

$32,000 Granted to Fremont County Community Projects

The Fremont County Community Foundation awarded $32,000 to Fremont County nonprofit organizations and community projects during its Fall 2022 Grant Cycle. Including these most recent grants, the Fremont County Community Foundation has distributed more than $2.5 million in grants and scholarships over the past 24 years.
