SMC Expands Sidney Clinic

Shenandoah Medical Center has recently undergone a major renovation project to increase access to care for residents in Fremont County by expanding its Sidney Clinic. SMC implemented this expansion to meet the demand of increasing utilization in the Sidney community and to promote its vision to be the Southwest Iowa leader in enhancing health.

“Our local communities have depended on SMC for first-class health care for more than a century,” said Matt Sells, Shenandoah Medical Center CEO. “This expansion in Sidney supports a more appropriate ratio of providers to patients and offers local patients more access to care in that community. The new space will provide the ability for us to run two provider clinics simultaneously for the first time, which will vastly help us meet the increased demand derived from the maturity of Krista Wilson, ARNP’s clinic practice over the past five plus years. We are incredibly committed to the community of Sidney and look forward to being a mainstay on the square for decades to come.”

The clinic will be increasing space in the adjacent area of the existing clinic, located at 802 Illinois Street. The new addition adds more than 1,800 square feet of clinical space, which will provide a larger area for exam and procedure rooms, a new provider office, and a room to provide access to mental health services. The investment comes at a time when the need for expanded health care access is growing in rural areas across the country. In the state of Iowa, the 65 and older population, which typically requires more health resources and specialized care, is expected to grow significantly over the next decade.
