Iowa girls’ state basketball wraps up

The 2024-25 Iowa Girls’ State Basketball Tournament wrapped up over the weekend in Des Moines.

In the Class 1A finals, Council Bluffs St. Albert defeated Newell-Fonda, 61-58, in two overtimes. St. Alberts, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 8 Dunkerton and No. 4 Bishop Garrigan to reach the finals. Newell-Fonda, the No. 3 seed, defeated No. 6 Springfield and No. 2 North Linn to reach the finals.

In the Class 2A finals, Hinton defeated Central Lyon, 48-46. Hinton, the No. 3 seed, defeated No. 6 Rock Valley and No. 2 Iowa City Regina to reach the finals. Central Lyon, the No. 5 seed, defeated No. 4 North Mahaska and No. 1 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont to reach the finals.

In the Class 3A finals, Mount Vernon defeated Dubuque Wahlert, 47-36. Mount Vernon, the No. 1 seed, defeated No. 8 West Marshall and No. 5 Estherville Lincoln Central to reach the finals. Dubuque Wahlert, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 7 Spirit Lake and No. 3 Williamsburg to reach the finals.

In the Class 4A finals, Cedar Rapids Xavier defeated Norh Polk, 66-47. Cedar Rapids Xaiver, the No. 8 seed, defeated No. 1 Bishop Heelan and No. 4 Norwalk to reach the finals. North Polk, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 7 Sioux Center and No. 6 Dallas Center Grimes to reach the finals.

IN the Class 5A finals, Johnston defeated Dowling Catholic, 55-44. Johnston, the No. 1 seed, defeated No. 8 Iowa City Liberty and No. 4 Ankeny Centennial to reach the finals. Dowling Catholic, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 7 Davenport North and No. 3 Waukee Northwest to reach the finals.
