Fulfilled Christmas wish still brings joy nearly 100 years later

A letter to Santa printed in the 1926 Hamburg Reporter produced a fulfilled Christmas wish that continues to brighten the life of a local resident.

The letter, printed on Dec. 9, 1926, read as follows:

Dear Santa: I saw a flexible flyer sled in a window, so I would like to have it. I would like an erector set, an air gun and lots of candy for Christmas. Your friend, Paul Folkes.

Paul’s daughter, Sandra Folkes Bengtson, inherited the slide and put it to good use on sledding adventures alongside her brother.

When Sandra grew up, she took it to her home for her own children to enjoy.

Several years ago, she learned that the sled had been her father’s fulfilled Christmas wish.

Sandra said she was glad that she kept her father’s sled. The sled now resides beside Sandra’s fireplace and brings smiles to her face year-round.
