The Sidney cross country teams recently traveled to Tarkio and SW Valley (Lake Icaria).
Sidney was missing runners at the Tarkio meet due to illness. Flynt Bell, Carter Jorgenson, and Brody Buttry have been battling illness and did not compete.
Sidney did not have a team score, but Carter Buttry led the way for the boys with a time of 19:26, which was good for 5th place. He was in third at the two-mile mark but had a tough last mile. Sam Glenn was the only other Sidney boy in the race. He completed the 5K in 37:12 which placed him 46th. On the girls’ side, Alexis Barrett, a sophomore, was the 8th place medalist in a time of 25:19. This was an improvement of about 90 seconds over her last year on this course.
High temps at the SW Valley Invitational Meet at Lake Icaria led meet organizers to shorten the course from 5k to 4k for the safety of the high school runners.
Alexis Barrett looked comfortable all the way and finished in 15th place out of the 44 female runners in 19:45.40.
Flynt Bell and Carter Jorgenson returned to action and teamed up with Carter Buttry to give Sidney three runners. Carter Buttry had perhaps his best effort to date, finishing his 4k (2.48 mile) run in 14:37.50. Flynt Bell finished in 15:43.90 which was 13th out of the 74 boys who ran. Carter Jorgenson gave it a go, but could only muster a 17:03.90 for 32nd place.
