Richard C. Owen, age 90 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.

Richard was born on May 23, 1931 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Forest M. and Grace F. (Stephens) Owen. He grew up and attended school in Hamburg. He joined the United States Army in May of 1949 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in October of 1952.

He was united in marriage to Esther L. Lang on January 31, 1953 in Sidney, IA and to this union three children were born: Cathy, Elizabeth “Betsy” and Richard.

Richard worked for Wes and Bill Sheldon doing farm work for 30 years. He also worked at Athens Implement and Andrews Monument. He was a member of the American Legion Post #156 and had served as Past Commander.

He is survived by his children: Cathy Jean Lant (Ronald Miller) of Moville, IA, Elizabeth “Betsy” Ann Lilly (Troy) of Hamburg, IA and Richard Allen Owen of Hamburg, IA; seven grandchildren: Greg Lant (Patty) of Nebr. City, Cody Lant of Nebr. City, Mandy Roberts (Nate) of Nebr. City, Matthew Lant of Nebr. City, Jessica Crum (William Kuhns) of Lincoln, Vanessa Frank (Remington) of Randolph, IA and Joe Thiesfeld of Lincoln, NE; six greatgrandchildren; sister Jane Lang of Riverton and brother Larry Owen (Linda) of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death his wife Esther Owen; his parents and siblings: Harley, Forest, Donald (Marjorie) and J.D. (Cynthia) and brothers-in-law Merrill and Dickie Lang.

A Graveside Funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Mt. Zion (Utterback) Cemetery at rural Hamburg, IA. Military Honors will be conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wed. (2/9) at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. Memorials may be given to Hamburg Rescue.
