The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts presents “Canceled Because of War” by Olena Mosiyevych, which will be on display through June 16. A Gallery Talk will be hosted on Thursday, May 18, at 5 p.m.
Thanks to perseverance, teamwork, and innovation, a 1920s era ELI windmill once again spins in the skies over Nebraska City. The restored and regalvanized mill was the site of an afternoon ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 27, near the Greenhouse at Arbor Day Farm.
Wayne State College will hold commencement ceremonies for graduate and undergraduate students tomorrow (Saturday, May 6) in the college’s historic Willow Bowl amphitheater. The graduate student ceremony will be at 10 a.m., and the undergraduate ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be held in Rice Auditorium.
The first institution of higher learning in Nebraska will hold its 2023 commencement on Saturday, May 6, at 10 a.m. Peru State’s annual event will be held in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the College’s campus. Nearly 400 master’s and undergraduate degrees will be conferred.

Whether attached to decks, hanging in the backyard or off the front porch, Iowans enjoy watching birds come and go from their feeders all year long.
The Sidney golf teams took on East Mills and Rock Port in recent triangular action. Avery Dowling shot 43 to lead the Sidney girls’ team to a 215, while East Mills had 239.
Hayden Thompson shot an individual first place score of 76 and led the Sidney boys’ golf team to a home tournament win at the Fremont County golf course last week. Sidney shot 355.
Last summer’s dry conditions were hard on lawns and this spring many unirrigated lawns are showing dead patches or thinned grass stands. These areas are pretty easy to spot now. Look for patches not greening up as they should. Or areas with a large percentage of bleached, light tan leaf blades. In areas with severe damage, you may even see bare ground. These areas will need to be reseeded or sodded to re-establish a thick healthy grass stand and prevent weed invasion this spring.
Staycations are an option for budget-conscious vacationers or people who simply do not want to travel too far from home due to mobility issues or other restrictions. Enhancing staycations with entertaining themes can improve the fun factor.
