Lourdes Central Catholic brings home first-ever dance team trophy

The Lourdes Central Catholic dance team brought home the runner-up championship trophy in C2 Hip Hop after competing for the first time in Lourdes history at the Nebraska Cheer and Dance Competition. The competition was held in Grand Island at the Heartland Convention Center Thursday, Feb. 16, and Friday, Feb. 17, with C2 schools competing on Friday. Lourdes competed against eight high school dance teams— Louisville, Archbishop Bergan, Wood River. Pender, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Cross County, Doniphan-Trumball, and Centennial—in hip hop. Judges scored the teams based on choreography and execution. Louisville won the championship by 8.65 points over Lourdes.

State Wrestling

A pair of Southwest Iowa wrestlers competed at the state tournament last week. Seth Ettleman, 120 pounds, dropped a first round match to Kaden Pritchard of Eagle Groove by pin, battled back for a 4-0 decision over Conner Pickerell from Albia and fell out of the tournament after a 6-2 loss to CJ Davis of Notre Dame, Burlington. Ettleman wrapped his season with a record of 45-8.
