Sidney volleyball wraps up season

The Sidney High School volleyball team wrapped up its season after a loss to Ankeny Christian in the Class 1A Region 2 Championship match at Atlantic High School on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Sidney finished 32-9 overall and was the only unbeaten team in Corner Conference play at 6-0. Final kill leaders were Kaden Payne, senior, 394; Aunika Hayes, senior, 206; Eve Brumbaugh, junior, 180; Addy Haning, sophomore, 144; and Fallon Sheldon, junior, 116. Payne had 37 solo blocks on the season. Emily Hutt, a senior, had the top digs at 469. Brumbaugh had 314. Avery Dowling, a senior, set for 896 assists and was third on the team in digs with 223. Hayes had 176 digs. Karlee Graham, a senior had 164 digs. And Mia Foster, a senior, had 152 digs. Sheldon was tops in service aces with 40. Brumbaugh and Graham had 35 aces each. Foster had 34; Dowling had 29 aces and Hutt had 21.

Army Corps of Engineers hosts fall Missouri River meeting at Steinhart Lodge

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa are likely to see a third consecutive La Niña winter weather pattern in late 2022 and early 2023. Dave Pearson, senior service hydrologist with the NWS office in Omaha, was one of the featured speakers at the annual fall Missouri River Basin Water Management Division meeting hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The 2022 meeting took place Oct. 26 at Steinhart Lodge.

Peru Homecoming

Ryan Arnold is the son of Terry and Vicki Arnold. He is from Beatrice. Ryan is majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in Kinesiology. He is involved with science club, Rotaract, NSLS, CSF, club golf, Residence Life as a Resident Assistant, and undergraduate research in chemistry.

Iowa DNR conducting gray fox research study

The Iowa Department of Nat-ural Resources (DNR) is asking trappers for help with a new pilot study on Iowa’s gray fox population. “We’re asking trappers who happen to catch a gray fox alive to contact me or wildlife technician Dave Hoffman directly so we can make arrangements to equip the animal with a neck collar and release it for tracking purposes as part of a new pilot research project,” said Vince Evelsizer, furbearer biologist with the Iowa DNR.
