Dawn Dunnegan AMES, Iowa – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 123 people, on average, die by suicide each day in the United States. It’s the 10th leading cause of death in America, the second leading cause of death for people age 25-34, and the third leading cause of death for those age 15-24.
Fremont County Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports that at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, Fremont County deputies were called to the 200 block of Park Street in Hamburg for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller advised the female suspect fled the residence and left her 8-year-old child at the scene.
SWI Art Tour grows to 11 communities for 2022
The Southwest Iowa Art Tour is gearing up for its ninth year connecting rural communities through art. In 2014, a group of southwest Iowa artists came together to pull off a regional event to connect their rural communities – a self-guided ‘Art Tour’ that would showcase their artworks, studios, galleries, and hometowns.

Lewis and Clark features clear view of Big Muddy
Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media Nebraska City’s Lewis and Clark interpretive Trails and Visitors Center is currently hosting a photo exhibit entitled “Flood Plain, a Clear View of Life on the Big Muddy” with photos by Omaha resident and wildlife conservation photographer Alex Wiles. The exhibit is free to view for any resident in the 68410-area code and will be at the center for roughly one month.

Farm Food and Enterprise Development Welcomes New Staff
Two new staff have joined the Farm, Food and Enterprise Development team with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Alex Burke, communications specialist, and Krista Smith, farm to early care and education coordinator, both began their new roles in August.
