The late Calvin Chapman finally got his hearing in front of the Nebraska Hall of Fame Commission, but his most enthusiastic supporter was not in attendance. Chapman’s great-granddaughter, Teresa Geer-Teater, has been faithfully submitting her ancestor for consideration by the commission (she called and visited the News-Press offices to discuss her project, and I last spoke with her about her great-grandfather while standing alongside her car on Central Avenue on a brisk December day in 2021), and her date had been set: July 20. Unfortunately, she passed away unexpectedly on July 12, and the application she had prepared for Chapman was submitted by her daughter and read into the official record by a member of the Hall of Fame Commission.
