Learn to Hunt program opens registration for virtual dove hunting session

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is offering a program to teach skills needed to hunt, field dress and cook mourning doves to individuals who have little to no dove hunting experience. The July 14 workshop will feature a two-hour virtual knowledge and skills building sessions with instructors that will teach the basics.

Nebraska State College board freezes tuition for second straight year

For the second straight year, the board of trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges froze tuition at the Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges for the 2022-23 academic year. The board also reduced the non-resident undergraduate tuition rate to match the resident rate in an effort to encourage out-of-state students to attend a state college in the hopes of further addressing Nebraska’s workforce shortage.

Mustard is a must-have at backyard barbecues, and that status as a summertime staple makes it easy to overlook the nutritive properties of this popular condiment. A review published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences in 2016 found that mustard seeds can protect against oxidative stress and inflammation. That's because mustard seeds contain glucosinolates, which are antioxidants that are converted during processing into isothiocyanates, which are responsible for the protection against oxidative stress and inflammation. Yellow mustard also contains a significant amount of selenium, which offers antioxidant properties. In addition, a 2014 review in the journal Radiation Oncology found that selenium may help individuals lower their risk for cancer.

UNO releases spring honors lists

The University of Nebraska, Omaha, has released its spring 2022 chancellor’s and dean’s lists. Each semester, students seeking their first bachelor’s degree who meet or exceed specific grade point average thresholds are selected for inclusion on the chancellor’s list and/or dean’s list at UNO as recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
