The Sidney Cowgirl softball team earned a split with Essex and picked up a win in three games against Stanton during recent diamond action. Sidney fell to Essex, 5-1, but also had a 12-0 win in doubleheader action on June 20.

New Life Church of Fremont County in Hamburg celebrated the Kookaburra Coast Vacation Bible School from June 20-24. Kids, ages 5-12, enjoyed different activities related to studying the bible.
The Declaration of Independence and July Fourth are indelibly linked. But you may need to be an American history buff to know that the link is less direct than it may seem. The Continental Congress declared American independence on July 2, even though the final wording of the Declaration of Independence had yet to be approved. That approval came two days later, which is why American independence is celebrated on July 4. Furthermore, the Declaration of Independence now on display at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., was not signed on July 4. The signatures on that document, which have been a source of pride for descendants of the signers for centuries, were written on August 2, a full month after the Congress declared its independence from Great Britain. And in a reflection of life in the 18th century, Great Britain did not even receive the declaration until November of 1776.

Earlier this year Peru State bowling coordinator Brenda Lutz signed Renee Gausman for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Gausman is from Lincoln and attended Lincoln North Star High School.
After absorbing a one-run second round loss to Stanton in the Corner Conference tournament, the Sidney Cowboy baseball team bounced back with a 6-1 win in a rematch against the Vikings. Sidney beat Essex in a doubleheader rout on June 20 before falling 17-8 in a pre-conference tournament match with Stanton on June 21.

Peru State College and its President, Dr. Michael Evans, granted degrees to 192 undergraduates on Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center on the campus of the College. More than 2,500 people attended the ceremony in the Al Wheeler Activity Center which was followed by a reception on the campus quad.
The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to have The Darryl White Quintet! Darryl White, Jeff Jenkins, Hans Sturm, Michael Pujado, and Michael Warren play a wonderful mixture of traditional jazz, contemporary styles and even jazz spirituals. In 2020, Darryl White recorded his fifth record. This record was a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to all those who dealt with loss of loved ones and injustice. Much of the music from this album will be featured in this concert along with a sprinkling of traditional jazz that includes music from Louis Armstrong to Miles Davis. It’s sure to be one you won’t want to miss! The show will be in cabaret on Friday & Saturday, July 15th & 16th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, July 17th at 2:00pm.
