What about Medical Cannabis?

Since ancient times, marijuana has been used for medicinal and recreational purposes in many cultures. In the United States, it became illegal during prohibition, like alcohol. Later, under the Controlled Substances Act in the 1970’s, the federal government classified marijuana a Schedule 1 drug. This classification includes heroin, LSD, and ecstasy, all deemed to have no safe, effective medical use and a high potential for abuse.

IDALS cancels live bird shows to stop avian flu spread

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order cancelling all live bird exhibitions at fairs and other gatherings of birds due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The order also prohibits live birds from being sold or transferred at livestock auction markets, swap meets and exotic sales. The Department’s order begins immediately and is effective for a minimum of 30 days, and until 30 days has passed without a confirmation of a new infection of HPAI in domestic poultry in the state of Iowa.

Keep seasonal allergies in check

There is much to look forward to when springs arrives. Daily hours of sunlight increase while temperatures continue to climb. Blooming flowers and leaves budding on trees also add some awe-inspiring color back into the landscape. Even though there’s much to enjoy about spring, one side effect of so much foliage in bloom is the return of seasonal spring allergies.

Iowa DNR plans prescribed burns at Waubonsie

The staff of the Iowa DNR’s Waubonsie State Park are planning to complete large prescribed burns at several sites within the park this spring. Residents that are located as far as 7 miles from these prescribed burns could be affected by smoke. If anyone has health conditions that could be impacted by smoke around these areas in Fremont or Otoe (Nebraska) counties, please contact park manager Matt Moles at (712) 350-0873 so the park staff can ensure that necessary precautions are taken
