Q: What are Veterans Honor Flights? A: Across the United States, a network of local organizations raises money to provide expensefree trips to the nation’s capital for veterans to spend a day in remembrance and celebration of their military service to America. Thanks to generous donors and an army of local volunteers, tens of thousands of veterans who served during the eras spanning World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars have made the once-in-a-lifetime trip since 2005.
Sidney High School art students recently participated in the Spring Celebrating Art contest (a national online art competition that promotes student art and art education). Winners are Abby Briley, Lauren Thomas, Jayden Sheldon, Cassandra Moreno, Katie Martin, and Alyssa O’Barsky.
The Brownville Concert Series is thrilled to bring back Brownville favorite JEFF HARNAR in his critically acclaimed show “BECAUSE OF YOU: Fifties Gold.” The show taps into his parents’ record collection, highlighting songs from the Tony Bennet, Johnny Mathis, Nat “King” Cole, Doris Day, and Johnnie Ray songbooks, among many others. He will have Alex Rybek on piano, Steve Doyle on Bass, and Dave Chael on Sax. The show will be in cabaret on Friday & Saturday, May 13th & 14th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, May 15th at 2:00pm. The Sidney boys’ golf team recently competed at a triangular against host team Nebraska City and Waverly at the Wildwood Golf Course. Cole Jorgenson of Sidney had the top overall score for the event with a 39.
Saturday I remarked within grandson Dustin’s hearing that I thought this was a very unusual spring. Dustin laughed and said “Grandma – I think you say that every spring!” Maybe I do, but I do believe this spring of 2022 is the strangest one I have experienced in my 91 encounters with the season.

Spitting chew has been a trademark of cowboys and professional athletes alike and chewing tobacco use continues at high rates in the United States. In 2018 a survey showed 2.4 percent of American adults used smokeless tobacco, with snuff or snus pouch use on the rise and chewing tobacco on the decline.
