Get that trunk packed — it's road trip season, and half the fun is getting there, right?

Personal finance site WalletHub took a look at the states most worth a road trip. With all that time spent in the car, it's important to have lots of stuff to look at on the journey, as well as low gas prices, low rates of car theft and low cost of car repairs (all things WalletHub checked within three categories: cost, activities and safety).

Here are the top 10 states for a road trip, according to WalletHub:

North Carolina Wyoming Minnesota Virginia Texas New York Louisiana Oregon Utah  Wisconsin

North Carolina tied with California for most scenic byways. Wyoming has the lowest cost of camping and ranked first in the "cost" category, making for an inexpensive option. Texas ranked highly in the "cost" and "activities" categories, which means there's lots to do without breaking the bank.

The state to avoid, according to WalletHub? Rhode Island, which ranked 50th on the list.
