Garett Phillips tried to keep the Cowboys season alive after knocking down seven threes during a 63-47 second round district loss to Mount Ayr on February 25.

After defeating Fremont-Mills 62-38 in the first round of the Class 1A District 13 tournament, Sidney faced off with Mount Ayr who entered the game with 19 wins and 2 losses.


The Raiders got out to a quick start and led 36-21 at the half.  Sidney tried to battle it’s way back but Mount Ayr held off the Cowboys as their season came to a close.


Garett Phillips was 7-of-14 from behind the arc and finished with 25 points.


Cole Jorgenson ended the night with seven points; Noah Jorgenson and Connery Humphries six, each; Nik Peters, two; Kyle Beam, one.


Humphires led Sidney with eight rebounds and Noah Jorgenson recorded three steals.


Dawson Frost led the Raiders with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Mount Ayr went on to advance to the Class 1A Substate contest where they lost to Martendale-St. Mary’s 46-41 on February 29.


Sidney finished the season with 12 wins and 11 losses.


The Cowboys had three athletes make the Corner Conference Boys All-Conference team.


Senior Noah Jorgenson was named first team All-Conference.  Sophomore Cole Jorgenson was named second team All-Conference.  Sophomore Garett Phillips made third team All-Conference.
