Senior Camryn McClintock tallied seven three pointers, as the Sidney Cowgirls fought off the AHSTW Vikings, 53-48, on Tuesday, February 12, during regional play.
“Someone was on fire tonight, and it was her.” Is what Coach Amy McClintock said about Camryn’s performance. Amy said that the Vikings were playing Maddy Duncan really tight, and it was nice to see others step up. “This team works really well together, and I’m really proud of them,” said Coach McClintock.
In the first period, the score was tied, 12-12. All 12 points came from Camryn’s three point shooting, and nice ball movement from Duncan and Olivia Larsen.
Adi Williams got in the mix with a two point basket in the second period, followed by a base-line bucket by Caitlyn Ward. Presley Brumbaugh scored a field goal off an offensive rebound to give Sidney an, 18-16, lead. With 3:30 left in the half, Duncan scored a two point shot, and with 37 seconds left, Ward hit a three pointer. At the half, the game was all tied up, 23-23.
The Vikings came out in the third quarter and went on a 14-0 run in three minutes, but the Cowgirls fought back. Ward scored three straight points and Duncan added a nice jump shot. McClintock drained her fifth three of the night, and the Cowgirls were on a 9-2 run heading into the fourth quarter.
Trailing, 39-34, in the fourth period, McClintock dropped in a three on the Cowgirls first possession. Larsen stole the ball and flew down court for the score, and the game was tied. Duncan broke the tie by driving the lane and scoring two. The Vikings took a one point lead, 42-41, and that’s when McClintock knocked down her seventh three. With 1:30 left, and the game tied, 46-46, Ward hit a three point shot from the wing. Duncan would add another two point basket and Ward closed out the game with two free-throws.
Coach McClintock said she was proud of the effort from her team. “Seeing the resilience in them tonight was huge,” McClintock said. “They were smart with ball and they didn’t force it.”
Camryn McClintock finished the game with 21 points; Ward, 16, Duncan, 10; Williams, Brumbaugh, and Larsen, two each.
Sidney (20-2) will take on Treynor (21-1) on Friday, February 15, at Glenwood. Game time: 7 p.m.
