The Sidney Cowboys football put on a solid defensive performance by holding Essex to negative yards rushing and got a six touchdown night from Bryson Duncan as the Cowboys stayed undefeated in a 56-16 victory over the Trojans on Friday, Oct 13.
Sidney improves to 8-0 on the season and Coach Donnie Sears said he is impressed with how his team is performing.
“Our kids keep playing well.”  Coach Sears said.  “Friday night was a pretty good game overall.”
Sidney tallied over 400 yards rushing thanks to Bryson Duncan’s 217 yard rushing and six touchdown evening.
Cody Dupre had 16 rushing attempts and 97 yards and added a touchdown.  Zayne Osborn scored a touchdown and had 24 yards rushing on  two carries.
On the defensive side, the Cowboys stuffed the Essex run game and intercepted the Trojans twice.
Osborne and Cameron Whitehead both had interceptions for the Cowboy’s.
Whitehead led Sidney with seven tackles, Christian Nennemann had five and Duncan added a sack to go along with his four tackles.
Coach Sears said that his defense gave a great effort and that they reached a goal on what they wanted to accomplish on defense.
“Defensively, we held Essex to negative yards rushing for the game.”  Coach Sears said.  “We forced four turnovers, which surpassed our goal of three.”
Sidney will be at Clarinda Academy on Friday night and Coach Sears is expecting a challenge from the Eagles.
“They are extremely athletic and have guys who can hurt you in many ways.”  Coach Sears said.
